As you remember from our last update, the DOB examiner at 279 Sackett Street requested that we install a sprinkler system throughout the building.  However, sprinklers have not been required in similar projects in the past because they are already supplemented by fire alarms, fire escapes, and other safety measures. Fortunately, the builder pushed back on this request and was able to get the sprinkler objection removed, allowing us to move into the final stage of DOB permit approval.

At our most recent DOB meeting, the examiner requested we conduct a special underpinning report to test the adjacent neighbors’ foundations. The underpinning report will confirm exactly where and how deep we need to underpin the neighbors’ foundations with suring supports when we do our rear extension. Our structural engineer is finalizing the report now. We have a follow up meeting scheduled with the DOB next week. If all goes well, we expect to receive full approvals after 1-2 more meetings!
